Wireless Internet Technician

EIDNet located in Brooks, Alberta, seeks a full time Wireless Internet Technician to join our team.

The Wireless Internet Technician, reporting to the Internet Services Supervisor, works alongside four other EIDNet employees. The internet service and the corporate communication systems operate 24 hours per day and requires regular day shifts as well as a rotating on-call shift.

This position is responsible for:

  • installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining radio communications equipment at customer premises, towers, and local network operations centre.
  • resolving service calls by troubleshooting and coaching customers over the phone and by working on-site, fixing, or replacing hardware and reconfiguring software settings, as required.
  • building and maintaining a network consisting of two-way radios, wireless internet (Wi-Fi) access and other communications devices.
  • monitoring and managing network performance to consistently deliver high quality service.
  • assisting with constructing and maintaining corporate computer systems, networks, and other communication systems.
  • producing timely, accurate records, including documentation of customer equipment, work performed (over the phone as well as on site), resolution of problems and inventory management.
  • the ability to safely perform work indoors and outdoors in adverse weather conditions and at varying heights from ground level to building roof tops, including communication towers.

The individual must have a broad set of skills and competencies, including, but not limited to:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma, with preference given to those with a relevant Technical Diploma/Degree.
  • Working knowledge of IP networking (LAN and WAN).
  • Valid Alberta’s Class 5 Driver’s License and clean criminal record report.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to solve problems in a technical environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability and willingness to work independently as well as productively and cooperatively in a team environment.

Heavy Duty Mechanic

The Heavy Duty Mechanic services and repairs all EID heavy duty equipment including heavy trucks, gravel trucks, fork lift, and tow behind trailers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain quotes/pricing on heavy duty equipment and discuss findings with the Shop Supervisor.
  • Conduct all necessary paperwork including invoice coding and work orders related to heavy duty equipment.
  • Working with the Shop Supervisor, determine, organize and conduct repairs that are required on heavy duty equipment; organize the outsourcing of specialized repairs.
  • Working with the Shop Supervisor, develop and maintain effective relationships with heavy duty equipment vendors to ensure best quality and pricing on parts and other mechanically-related items.
  • Maintain a service truck and tools; ensure the District vehicle is kept in proper working order, and report any problems to the Motor Mechanic.
  • Obtain and maintain the commercial vehicle inspection facility license; perform safety inspections on EID vehicles when required.
  • Customize dump trucks and trailers by installing additional electronic and electrical equipment.
  • Perform small welding jobs as required.
  • Relate to, and communicate with co-workers, supervisors, management, and others, sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and issues promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S including attendance at regular safety tailgate meetings, being properly trained, and completing work in a safe manner.
  • Perform tasks, consistent with the position, as may be required on an ad hoc basis.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid Alberta Class 5 drivers’ license; valid Alberta Class 1 or 3 license with air brake endorsement would be an asset
  • Journeyman heavy duty mechanic
  • Minimum of 5 years heavy duty mechanic skills and experience
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
