Summer Student-Habitat Development

Job Summary:

Summer Student-Habitat Development is responsible for participating in the Partners in Habitat Development (PHD) project by planting trees and shrubs on project sites and conducting maintenance on the habitat sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plant, irrigate and maintain shrubs and trees for wildlife habitat.
  • Irrigate and maintain existing habitat projects.
  • Upgrade and maintain wildlife viewing sites and trails.
  • Participate with habitat evaluations, as required.
  • Participate with wildlife species inventory work, as required.
  • Participate with wildlife and habitat research projects, as required.
  • Perform basic manual labour including fencing, sign installation and site cleanups.
  • Relate to and communicate with co-workers, supervisors, management and others sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and issues promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S including attendance at regular safety tailgate meetings, being properly trained, and completing work in a safe manner.
  • Ensure the District vehicle is kept in proper working order and report any problems to the District Mechanic.
  • Perform tasks consistent with the position, as may be required on an ad hoc basis

Job Qualifications:

  • In possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Some university or college background in the biological or environmental sciences area would be an asset.
  • Note: Must be able to provide written evidence of attendance in a post-secondary educational institution.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Selected candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Selected candidates will be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.

Summer Student – Mower Operator/General Labourer

Job Summary:

The Summer Student – Mower Operator/General Labourer works with the Water Operators to provide general labour and mowing services to support the operations of the District.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate equipment to control weed and brush growth on the District irrigation system and drainage system.
  • Provide general labour services to support Water Operators including the following: washing trucks, cleaning the Shop, including sweeping the Shop floors (Duchess and Brooks locations).
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S including participating in regular safety tailgate meetings, being properly trained, operating tools and equipment appropriately and safely, and completing work in a safe manner.
  • Conduct regular inspections, care and maintenance of applicable equipment; this includes ensuring the district vehicle is kept in proper working order (e.g., maintaining fluid levels, tire pressures, regular oil changes, minor repairs) and reporting any problems to the District Mechanic; and ensuring applicable District equipment is kept in proper working order.
  • Relate to, and communicate with co-workers, supervisors, management and others sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and issues promptly and professionally.
  • Perform tasks, consistent with the position, as may be required on an ad hoc basis.

Job Qualifications:

  • In possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 license
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, when necessary
  • Familiarity and some experience operating equipment
  • Note: Must be able to provide written evidence of attendance in a post-secondary educational institution

Seasonal Office Administrative Support

Job Summary:

The Seasonal Office Administrative Support, reporting to an Office Administrator, is responsible for a wide variety of office tasks, including filing, proofreading, photocopying, scanning, answering phones, and data entry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organizing, reviewing, sorting, and storing documents, both physically and digitally.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Preparing documents for scanning, operating scanning equipment, ensuring the quality of scanned images, and maintaining document organization.
  • Reviewing and proofreading various agreements, materials, newsletters, brochures and policies and procedures in support of various Eastern Irrigation District initiatives and projects.
  • Ability to handle information in a confidential manner, in accordance with all District policies.
  • Relate to, and communicate with co-workers, supervisors, management, and others, sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and issues promptly and professionally.
  • Adhere to and comply with the Eastern Irrigation District Health and Safety Management systems and all District policies, procedures and programs in effect, and as amended from time to time.
  • Perform additional tasks, consistent with the position, as may be required from time to time.

HR Manager

Job Summary:

The Human Resources (HR) Department delivers the full scope of human resources services to the Eastern Irrigation District (EID or District), including recruitment and selection, employee orientation, onboarding, training and development, succession planning, departures, performance management, compensation, benefits and pension administration, time and attendance management, human resource records, information systems, disability management, employee relations, organizational effectiveness, health and wellness and leadership of organizational culture

Reporting to the Assistant General Manager, Legal and Corporate Services (Assistant General Manager) of the EID, the HR Manager will lead the EID’s Human Resources department and be responsible for its operations. The incumbent will take a hands-on approach in the development and implementation of the District’s HR policies and procedures and related programs and initiatives
